About LNG

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been converted to liquid form. To make natural gas easier to store and transport, it is cooled and condensed into a liquid in specially-designed facilities, like the Lake Charles LNG facility. To learn more about the properties of this important energy source, take a look at this video.

LNG vessels hold one of the best safety records in the shipping industry. The vessels owned and chartered by Shell are state-of-the-art in every respect – from their double hulls to sophisticated gas management systems that allow for the economical consumption of natural gas for fuel. According to the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL) more than 77,000 LNG cargoes have been discharged without any major incident.
